This month’s topic: Brave! Beyond Boundaries and Addictions

“People are not addicted to alcohol or drugs, they are addicted to escaping reality."  Anonymous

'Brave!. Beyond Boundaries and Addictions' will tap into the transformational experiences of Phil, Steve and Mike who have fought addictions and won!. Through deep questioning in this panel discussion, we will explore their personal journeys and uncover the tools and realisations that led them from dependency to inner freedom.  Join us in-house as we navigate the complexities of addiction and celebrate the courage it takes to reclaim one’s life and self-sovereignty.

Speakers:

Michael Hudson
Up until his 40th year Michael ‘Spike’ Hudson lived in a whirlpool of constant hedonism. His world revolved around drugs, fast motorcycles, booze and cheap kicks. Ending up homeless on the streets of London, this jobless, ex-junkie, ex-con needed to find a way back to stability, order and self-respect. Discovering the path of Raja Yoga meditation he has found this … and much, much more!

Michael now runs an employment and training company operating in the social economy sector. He sits on the management committees of several voluntary organisations. He has also completed an MBA at Cranfield University.

Philip Reeve
Phil first became interested in meditation and spirituality in his birthplace of Hong Kong after an extended stay in India in the early 80s going on pilgrimages and studying the Hindu scriptures. He has variously worked as an English and Religious Studies teacher, travel writer & photographer and musician. After a very difficult period of addiction to cannabis and alcohol, with the help of the 12-step programme he has been ‘clean and sober’ for 24 years. The last 5 years has seen a renewed enthusiasm for the Raja Yoga meditation and knowledge he first discovered in 1982 and which he now practises on a daily basis.

Steve Lamb
Steve went into a Christian rehabilitation centre aged 20 to 24, where he led 20 plus men who were addicted to either heroin, crack cocaine, or alcohol.  Following this, he worked with young people in Amersham and then for an NGO in the 'slums' in Kampala, Uganda.  He continues to work with men and women addicted to various substances at his church in High Wycombe which offers them basic necessities and hope. Professionally, he is the Commercial Director for a sports nutrition company, working with some of the biggest international athletes and sports teams. He has been married for 10 years and has two daughters.
